First Year Memories – Celebrating Monthly Birthdays!

The first year after babies is challenging to say the least, a lot of figuring out, adjusting to new routines, sleepless nights, and you never get the feeling that you’ve settled in because there is always something new happening! And with twins, especially if they are also the first kids, its a completely different experience altogether! For us it was like we were always trying to catch up.. on everything.. for a few years! And everything happens in a blur!

My advice to new parents would be to take lots of pics and video, those are such precious memories to reflect back on later in time. And not to wait for things to be perfect – for the place to be tidy or for putting new outfits on the kids or for yourself to be all dressed up. I found that it was pretty much impossible!

In all that chaos, we somehow managed to celebrate each monthly birthday in the first year.

1
1st month – We were still trying to multitask!
2
2nd month – It was halloween and the boys were dressed as custom m&m’s, outfits I made hurriedly. They enjoyed having a lot of visitors!
3
3rd month – I made kashi halwa (with ash gourd)
4
4th month – We had family visiting for Christmas and New year. So it was a special celebration!

Since there was no way I could find time to bake cakes, they were picked up from the store. But to make it a little personal, I started placing the kids toys – what they were playing with around each month – as props around the cake.

6
6th month – The boys loved this key bunch 🙂
7
7th month – The catterpillar rattle was in their hands and mouth quite a bit!
8
8th month – I can still hear the squeaky bunny! And we would entertain the boys with those finger puppets.
9
9th month – One of my little one held and chewed on Sophie all the time while the other one held his Chan Pie Gnon 🙂
10
10th month – They were sitting down and playing on their little piano and hitting with the hammer which made sounds and trying to build their first blocks!
11
11th month – Their animal friends joined the celebrations! The boys also enjoyed their music activity table and bead maze (not seen in this pic).
12
The big one!
