Playing Bottle Caps Alphabet Scrabble
On a cold winter afternoon, I collected some spare bottle caps and alphabet stickers for the kids (4 year olds), and made a nice cup of chai for myself.
The kids sat at the table putting one alphabet sticker on top of each cap (good for their fine motor skills) while I enjoyed my cup of chai in leisure (a rare luxury)!
I then brought out two large plastic boxes which I keep for their activities and filled them partially with rice and buried the caps in it.
Next I told the kids to pull out the alphabet bottle caps one by one taking turns.
As they pulled out each alphabet, I asked each one to think of all the words they know that begins from that letter. They had fun giving out hints to each other 🙂
Finally I asked them to try making words with the letters that each had picked. They made a couple of 3 letter words (with mommy’s help).
We totally enjoyed the game! Infact, it went so long we needed a snack in-between! But the kids didn’t leave the table.
Some of things this activity helped with:
- Fine motor skills
- Taking turns
- Helping each other
- Vocabulary
And having a lot of fun!
