Diwali Kandil

Category :

This was my first time making a Kandil (Diwali Lantern). Materials are simple, and I had them all at home. My kids call the area where I keep my craft supplies as my Dollar Store! There is a lot there 🙂

I cut up some sheets of paper, 4 in red and and 4 in blue colors, into squares.

I had some glitter foam sheets which I glued in the middle of these square sheets, using contrasting colors. Also, I glued some gem stones to the top and bottom corners as shown below.

Next, I stapled the right and left corners together.

Then I glued a glitter heart in the middle, this also covers up the staple.

Next, I used glitter tape on the top and bottom of a long white sheet – I attached two sheets to make the sheet longer.

On this, I glued each of the red and blue cones next to each other.

Finally, I attached the two ends of the white sheet together to make a cylindrical lantern shape.

I glued a few more gem stones on the white paper, between the red and blue papers. And glued glitter ribbons and crepe paper ribbons to the bottom.

Thin ribbon was used to hang from the top.

Kids helped me in making this and they also helped in making these mini lanterns using empty toilet paper rolls.
