Dal Medley

Just for some variety and ofcourse nutrition, a mixed dal. I used Toor, Moong, Chana, Urad and Sabut Masoor this time. But anything thats around works. Sometimes, I add beans and dal together as well.

What you’ll need:

  • Toor Dal – 1/2 cup
  • Moong Dal – 1/2 cup
  • Chana Dal – 1/2 cup
  • Urad Dal – 1/2 cup
  • Sabut Masoor Dal – 1/2 cup
  • Turmeric – 1 tsp
  • Onion (chopped) – 1 medium
  • Jeera/Cumin Seeds – 1 to 2 tsp
  • Hing/Asafoetida – 1/4 tsp
  • Green Chilies (sliced lengthwise) – 4 or to taste
  • Salt to taste
  • Cilantro (Chopped) – a small bunch

Method:

1. Wash the dals and cook along with Salt and Turmeric until soft.

2. In a small pan, add a tbsp of oil. Add Jeera seeds and Hing. When it starts to splutter, add the Onion and Green Chilies and saute.

3. Add the sauteed Onion mixture to the cooked Dal. Garnish with Cilantro. Enjoy with Steamed Rice or with Roti! Or water it down a bit and enjoy as soup!
